Hypoglycemic shock and acute liver injury in a dog associated with xylitol toxicity

An adult dog were evaluated for treatment loss of consciousness, convulsions, and severe tremors after ingestion xylitol, a sugar alcohol used as sweetener in various products. Clinical findings noted tremors, while physio-pathological included moderately to severely elevated serum activities liver enzymes, hypoglycaemia hypophosphatemia. To correct hypoglycaemia, dextrose was administered intravenously provide electrolyte homeostasis Izolen P intravenously. Also, Milk Thistle (Silymarin) & Beta Glucan Complex, Hepatiale Forte Advanced (S-adenosylmethionine), Evicap (Vit E) Asist (acetylcysteine) acute damage. Values measured the applied treatments showed that blood glucose levels enzymes returned normal, patient discharged. Xylitol causes damage dogs ingestion. As growing number products contain clinicians should be aware xylitol could have life-threatening effects. This case report also carries distinction being first toxicity reported Turkey.
